How to apply sodium bentonite for waterproofing ponds?
Soil preparation:
– Clean and prepare the bottom and banks, removing stones, roots, and sharp objects… – Level and lightly dampen to facilitate the adhesion of BENTOLAKE
Installation of BENTOLAKE (sodium bentonite clay)
– Spread BENTOLAKE evenly over the entire surface of the future pond or body of water. The dose varies depending on the type of soil (see table above).
Compaction
– Use a roller, a manual tamper or a sheep’s foot compactor to ensure good bonding between the clay and the soil.
Option
Cover the bottom and banks with a thin layer of soil or gravel, 5 to 20 cm thick, to protect the waterproofing layer and promote vegetation growth. Fill the pond or water feature slowly to avoid disturbing the layer. BENTOLAKE expands upon contact with water to form a barrier. The pond or water feature must then be gradually deflated. It is essential to compact and protect the bentonite layer well to prevent it from shifting.
Precautions for use
Avoid contact with skin and eyes; wearing goggles and gloves is recommended. Do not swallow. Wash hands after use.
